OTESSA is inviting volunteers to join our team as copyeditors to support the OTESSA Journal and the OTESSA Conference Proceedings. This involves proofing the final versions of short and full papers to ensure a polished outcome. This requries proficiency in one or both of English or French languages with strong grammar and spelling skills, working knowledge of the APA reference style, and a strong eye for detail. We will ensure you enjoy this volunteer experience and support a team-based approach where we support your learning about the publishing process.
OTESSA Copyeditors will be expected to:
· Accept or reject copyediting requests in a timely manner
· Follow OTESSA guidelines alongside APA style guidelines
· Ensure proper grammar and spelling are used
· Verify citations and references to the extent possible and advise editor of any not checked
· Meet copyediting deadlines
· Identify inconsistencies in format/style
It is estimated that the workload is approximately 4 hours per article and approximately 6-8 articles per issue, and much of this work falls over a 1-2 month period, although continuous publication means one paper intermittently may require copyediting. We expect at least two issues per year to as we launch this journal (with two issues to be published before the end of 2021), and we expect that volume will increase to four issues per year as we set up our supports. The more copyeditors we have, the more we can spread the work around. We also have conference proceedings which will be published for the annual conference.
OTESSA is a non-profit, which supports open-access publishing, and all positions are voluntary and unpaid. The positions are an excellent opportunity for academic or professional learning and gaining experience in reviewing or critically appraising research. We will endeavour to provide funding for copyediting work as our journal becomes eligible for scholarly aid or sooner as our sponsorship increases, but at this time the work is on a volunteer basis.
Please complete the following questions to be considered as a copyeditor with OTESSA. Only those applicants who are shortlisted will be contacted.
(Note: This survey and its responses are hosted on the OTESSA server in Canada using LimeSurvey, which is an open-source tool. Your information will not be shared outside of OTESSA and will only be used to communicate with you regarding OTESSA.)
